Custom carbide tooling covers every tool that no catalogue carries: designed and manufactured to the customer's drawing. Fritz Leng supplies such tools as carbide blanks or as finished, ready-to-install parts — alternatively in hardened steel or ceramic — with tight tolerances and a high surface finish, manufactured in Herborn-Schönbach, Germany, since 1948.
What does Leng manufacture as custom tooling?
We manufacture special tools to your drawing, either as a carbide blank for your own finishing or as a finished part — ground, polished and measured, ready to install. Where the application demands it, we use hardened steel or ceramic instead of tungsten carbide. Typical applications sit close to our core fields: the wire, cable, tube and bar industries. Whatever does not fit our standard range of wire drawing dies, dies for bars and tubes or carbide mandrels becomes a custom project.
How does a custom tooling project run?
Your drawing (PDF, DXF or STEP) is the starting point. Our design office works with 3D CAD software; for drawing geometries, dedicated calculation software supports the design. Manufacturing stays in-house: we grind bores from 0.2 to 150 mm, polish — largely by hand with diamond compounds — and measure every tool. An inspection report is available on request; permanent marking by needle embosser or laser ensures traceability. Our stock of carbide blanks keeps delivery times short — within 24 hours if necessary.
